Transition back to FOB Cowboy, where the LT takes advantage of an empty shower tent and an abundance of hot water. If this weren't her first full day at the FOB, she'd realize how unlikely the showers are to be empty immediately after morning PT.

The song is the same song that was playing the last time we were here - five weeks ago for us, but only a few moments in the story...

Why don't Americans make good heavy metal anymore?

My first thought with the second panel is careful that soap'll make your eyes sting.

I guess 50 years down the pike do bring some improvements to forward bases. My intel unit was at a brigade size base and we made do with an Australian shower [single stall outside, canvas bucket with screw in/out shower head raised and lowered by rope, 1 5 gal can of non-potable water allowed]. Got stranded overnight at Phu Cat AFB once and placed in pilot's BOQ - individual air conditioned quarters with bathroom, flush toilet, hot water in the shower and mini refrigerator. Best night's sleep I had in country. The base also had a squadron dining hall with great food, concrete sidewalks, shade trees and a concrete and steel A-frame chapel.

That's what they say about the Airedales - those guys live high on the hog. I think the Army is starting to catch up though - even in my day, they had steak every Friday. I hear nowadays they've added lobster to the menu! Also I think the iraq and Afghanistan wars brought a lot if field expedient infrastructure off the drawing boards and into the field. Amazing what funding can do!
