yes, you're driving a school bus

but on a good day it's a school bus that drops its kids off at barely above stall speed

What are they going to drop barrels? Not like they can hook up to a Tank mid flight.

I'm glad you asked! Cuz I'm going to spend a whole page on it...

LAPES drop a bladder on a pallet.
Risky but effective maneuver, we lost a Herc in Edmonton back in the 80's practicing it.
I think the equipment has evolved so it's even easier now but you're still pretty much landing the A/C three feet off the deck then losing a huge amount of weight all at once which does wierd and not-so-wonderful things to the trim and balance.

I’ve never seen it done but I watched some videos on YouTube, so hopefully it will look more or less right next week …

There are no Sheridans in Drive On, but when they designed that tank they wanted to deploy it by LAPES - but the landing was too rough and it would mess the tank up.

The recoil from firing the main gun would screw the electronics in the missles and sometimes the tank itself.
Just slightly ahead of its' time but with the much more resiliant tech of today, it should work properly.

I think everyone is always glad to see the Air Force. There’s gonna be soft serve in the mess hall!

Everybody loves to hate the Airforce until they need close in support, supplies, or a medevac...
